Project: disc. A new way to listen to music.
Designed Through: University of Minnesota, Twin Cities - UX Design
Team Members: Emma Delisi, Elsa Marshall, and Parker Smith

This project required our team to design a new app to help fix pain points in consumers.

Our main focus was music as we felt it could bring anyone together. Initially, two user personas were created and one user journey to determine who our ideal user would be. Research was conducted on current music applications to create a sphere of influence.

Research was conducted to see what current applications users use, what their pain points include, and how they compare against each other. A desirability test was conducted providing users a list of words and providing three that they believe fit the application. When using this test with Spotify and TikTok, it was found that Spotify was intuitive and helpful. Comparing to TikTok which was said too be overwhelming and inconsistent.

Profile pages were tested next. Providing an outline of Facebook and Instagram's profile pages, without listing the name of the application, Facebook was said to be very clean and simplistic however there were too many unnecessary features like number of friends. The Instagram test indicated the likes of multiple photos and organization however it could include more information.

Lastly different music playing pages were examined to find similarities and differences between them.

Comparison of Play Screen

A storyboard that describes a user's journey through wanting to use the application was created along with two user flows that also walk through the user's process of wanting to use the application. These help determine if information is missing that has not been covered in research.

Wireframe sketches as well as a final wireframe was also created.

This wireframe went through additional testing including the talk out loud method and surveys through Qualtrics. The talk out loud method allowed users to share what they were thinking without our help or steering into a certain direction. They were shown each of the pages and allowed to share their thoughts. The Qualtrics Survey allowed for a wide reach of responses and provided questions such as would you use an application like what is being designed and do you share music with your friends to see if the app is valuable to the user.

One last test was conducted which was the scenario test. It was asked to have the user walk through a scenario that was given to determine if the application flowed for the user. Below is the scenario as well as the video showing the user responses.

Scenarios

Once complete, updates were made as well as adding additional images and colors to receive the final product below.
